Ekua Holmes is a Roxbury, MA native where she still lives and creates her powerful mixed media collages, public art installations and community based projects.  Just recently Holmes was awarded the 2019 Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for The Stuff of Stars and in 2018 for Out of Wonder: Poems Celebrating Poets . Holmes illustrated Voice of Freedom: Fannie Lou Hamer, The Spirit of the Civil Rights Movement by Carole Boston Weatherford, which went on to win a Caldecott Honor, a Robert F. Sibert Honor, John Steptoe New Talent Illustrator Award, and a Boston Globe-Horn Book Nonfiction Honor.

Join Ekua at the Portland Public Library's Rines Auditorium as she shares how she uses illustration and her creative process to engage, inspire and positively influence her home community and the world at large. A Q &A and book signing will follow Ekua’s presentation.

Sponsored by Illustration Institute and Candlewick Press. Free and open to all!
