Serve up seasonal fright and delight with these snacks. So easy, it’s spooky!

Looking to strike a balance of humor and gore in your family friendly Halloween efforts? Look no further. This is high impact, low effort, with some lovely side benefits (healthy, feeds a crowd, fits lots of dietary needs) and did we mention hilarious?! I was pressed for time and this took 15 minutes including the guacamole “recipe”. Two of my kids (ages 4 and 2) offered their formative feedback every step of the way, usually with laughter.

Puking Pumpkin Centerpiece
Making your own puking pumpkin really isn’t any different from carving any other type of pumpkin.  Materials are likely on hand:

  • a pumpkin (I used a pie pumpkin)
  • a permanent marker
  • sharp small knife
  • a spoon
  • serving platter
  • guacamole (method below)

Cut the top off and scoop out insides as you would for a jack-o-lantern.
Make “greater than” and “less than” signs for the squinched eyes.
Carve small oval/circle for the mouth
Position on the platter and pile the guacamole until it resembles the effect you are looking to achieve. Garnish with chopped tomatoes and serve with nearby tortilla chips.

Ghoulish Guacamole
My guacamole method was semi-homemade. In the food processor, I added:

  • 3 avocados,
  • small handful of fresh cilantro,
  • juice of 1 lime, pinch of cumin,
  • 1 seeded jalapeno,
  • 2 chopped roma tomatoes
  • 12 oz. tub of cabo brand guacamole.
Pulse until combined. Chop one more roma tomato as garnish. (full disclosure, so glad I threw in the tub because in all my haste I forgot to chop onion)

Clementine Pumpkins
Even easier. Again, high impact, low effort, with some lovely side benefits (healthy, feeds a crowd, fits lots of dietary needs). This has been the go-to snack all day. every.day. all.month.long.

Ingredients:

  • bag of clementines
  • 1-2 celery stalks chopped into 1-2” pieces depending on girth of clementine
  • serving platter
Peel the clementine, place on platter, and stick a celery “stem” in the top opening. It will stay on its own.
