Free “Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration” crafts program at PPL 1/25.

Local author Jennifer DeCristoforo will be hosting a hands-on crafts program for children in celebration of Chinese Lunar New Year/Year of the Horse, on Saturday, January 25, from 2-3 p.m.

She is the author of Lucky Bamboo Book of Crafts: 100 Projects & Ideas Celebrating Chinese Culture. The book includes a collection of easy-to-make crafts, reproducible templates, and lots of fascinating information on Chinese history, culture and folk arts. It can be enjoyed by all ages and along with writing the book, Jennifer designed, illustrated and photographed all the crafts.  It is the perfect resource book and teaching tool for anyone that wants to learn more about Chinese culture.

Jennifer has an adopted Chinese daughter from Jiangxi Province, China and has lived in the Portland area for many years. When asked about her inspiration for this book she said, “I am always looking for ways to share Chinese culture with my daughter here in Maine where the Chinese community is fairly small. I have prepared crafts for our Portland CAFAM Chinese New Year celebration for years and have always wished I had a better resource to design and plan the projects”.
